Glee - Season 3

The season in which a large part of the cast is graduating from McKinley High. The first episode starts with Jacob Ben Israel making a video blog about the start of the senior year. Who will graduate and who will fail? Finn is generally average and does not know what he wants to become, Mike's parents want him to go to Harvard or Stanford, Kurt and Rachel want to go to New York to study performing arts, Mercedes has a new crush and Santana wants to focus on becoming the biggest bitch of the Cheerios and wants to become just as passionate as her heroine Paula Abdul. Puck, Brittany and Quinn are also in their senior year of McKinley High. Tina, Artie, Sam and Blaine still have another two years to go. The New Directions only have ten members left this season and thus they are being sent by Will Schuester in order to find new members. Sue, again, tries to make the New Directions disappear and gratefully uses Santana and Becky during her attempts of sabotage and Quinn has completely lost her mind. And will Glee receive competition of another Glee club on their own McKinley High?

There were nice and less nice parts this season. I was very happy with the fact that Blaine (Darren Criss) has now become a lead. Last season, I fancied him a lot at the Warblers and I still do. Even though it is a sweet gesture towards Kurt, I think it's unnecessary for him to switch to McKinley High because the fact that he was a Warbler was part of his charm. I'm not a huge fan of Mercedes and Rachel. I can understand if you don't agree with me, everybody has his or her own taste, but I think they are become monotonous. This is the same for Quinn. Always the same voice and the same kind of songs and dances. Brittany remains brilliant. I always have to laugh about her stupid remarks, but I have a huge admirance for the episode in which she sings and dances to the song Run The World by Beyoncé. I think they should make more time for Brittany to dance and sing solos. Before 'Glee', she was a background dancer for Beyoncé. No surprise she is such a great dancer.

Time has also been made for the winners of 'The Glee Project'; Samuel Larsen and Damian McGinty. Although the character Joe (Samuel Larsen) did not appeal to me at all, I did totally fall in love with the cute Irish exchange student Rory Flanagan (Damian McGinty). He temporarily lives at Brittany's place and therefore is spends a lot of time with her. This causes, as expected, many funny moments. Obviously I've also watched The Glee Project and I have to say that Rory's songs are not well-chosen. They are always slow, boring songs. Damian McGinty would've been way better with a couple of up-tempo songs. But they're not the only ones being introduced this season. Sugar Motta (Vanessa Lengies), Sebastian Smythe (Grant Gustin) and Wade 'Unique' Adams (Alex Newell) are also characters who have been added to the cast.

In this season, you also get to know Mike Chang's parents, and the meaning of an Asian F. Will Mike have to quit the Glee Club or will he find a way to be able to stay? Not only Mike's parents are passing by but we also get to meet Emma's parents. And that's not all, because this really is the season in which the parents are introduced. For we also see Rachel's dads and Santana's mum. Naturally, there are also the common student problems, after all, that's what Glee is known for. Homosexuality, religion, love, illness, and so on. In addition, the theme episodes are back again. One episode has, for example, been devoted to Michael Jackson. I thought this was an amazing episode. Especially the song Smooth Criminal, performed by Santana and Sebastian and assisted by 2CHELLOS, simply amazing! In addition, Saturday Night Fever got a spot as theme episode and Whitney Houston asl received a tribute episode when she had passed away. Furthermore, the episode in which everyone switches lives with each other is hilarious!

So many things are happening this season that I'm running out of space to talk about it. Who proposes to who? Who has an accident and will that person survive? Who graduates and who fails? And, perhaps even more important: will they win Nationals? Special guest stars are Ricky Martin as a Spanish teacher, Matt Bomer in the amazing part of Blaine's brother, and Whoopi Goldberg will also be seen. Naturally, they also do bad-covered songs and not everything in the series is plausible (how does the pianist know what to play when they say 'hit it'?) but you can look past that. There are plenty of moments where I do enjoy the covers they're singing and where the story is credible and the problems are recognisable. The finale was definetely surprising and I didn't see it coming. So don't forget to watch season four!
