Good Omens - season 1
Good Omens tells the story of an unlikely friendship - and more - between an angel and a demon. Oh right, they also have to prevent the end of days.
Good Omens is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, who passed away in 2015. The series follows the demon Crowley (David Tennant, Jessica Jones) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Scheen, Quiz). They have been living on planet Earth since the beginning of time. By now, they've grown accustomed to life on Earth and they wouldn't leave for anything. Small problem: The end of days is near! Eleven years earlier, the son of Satan - the Antichrist - was born and the boy has now reached the age where he's able to destroy the world. This Armageddon will result in a war between Heaven and Hell. Both parties intend to win. Crowley and Aziraphale will have to do their best to prevent all this from happening.
As far as I'm concerned, Good Omens has become a great series. David Tennant and Michael Sheen are amazing as their characters. The rest of the cast is good as well. I laughed quite a few times at Michael McKean's (Better Call Saul) witch hunter Sergeant Shadwell. Visually, the series is pleasing to the eye. The special effects may not always be the best, but it's good enough for most scenes. The humour works great as well. Especially the conversations between Crowley and Aziraphale are absolutely hilarious. Throughout the entire series, Queen's music is heard, which is my favourite band of all time. And their music fits perfectly.
It is a bit of a shame that Good Omens is a limited series. I wouldn't mind more seasons of Crowley and Aziraphale, purely because of the chemistry between Tennant and Sheen. On the other hand, it may be a good thing that the series is so short. More doesn't necessarily mean better. I have become curious about other adaptations that are based on Neil Gaiman's work. Amazon Prime Video - which also has Good Omens as an original - also has the international distribution rights to American Gods and Netflix is working on The Sandman, which is based on a comic book by Gaiman. There's plenty to discover.
