There will not be a fifth season of A Black Lady Sketch Show. HBO's Emmy-winning comedy series is ending with its fourth season, which ended in May.

Created, written, produced, and starring Robin Thede, A Black Lady Sketch Show, according to the logline, had a core cast of black women living funny, relatable experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations. Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black and Skye Townsend also played.

In a statement, HBO described Thede as "a visionary comedic talent" and added "we are thrilled to partner with A Black Lady Sketch Show for four seasons on this groundbreaking, hilarious series. Robin, Hoorae, Jax Media and the incredible cast and crew, leave an indelible legacy not only in sketch, but also in television comedy, and we look forward to further creative collaboration under her deal with us."

Thede co-produced with Issa Rae for Hoorae, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry for 3 Arts Entertainment and Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch for Jax Media.

"Thanks to all the immensely talented cast members, guest stars, writers, directors, editors and crew members who made A Black Lady Sketch Show an Emmy-winning success," said Thede. "I want to especially recognize the black women and other women of color who have excelled in every department of ABLSS. I am also eternally grateful for the support of Issa Rae and Jax Media, Amy Gravitt, Casey Bloys, and the entire team at HBO, Max and Warner Bros. Discovery.

We've heard that HBO and Thede have mutually decided to end the series on the high creative note of season four. Variety was the first to report the news.

Thede will still be active at HBO. Under her overall deal, Thede is developing the half-hour comedy series Disengagement.

The critically acclaimed A Black Lady Sketch Show has garnered thirteen Emmy nominations and three wins. It also received the TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sketch/Variety Shows from four nominations, along with five Black Reel Awards, one HCA Award, and two NAACP Image Award nominations.
