Channel 4 has announced the cast for The Gathering, Line of Duty producer World Productions' series about a violent attack on a teenage girl at a rave.

Actress Vinette Robinson (Sherlock, Black Mirror) is on board the series, which is the television script debut of award-winning novelist Helen Walsh, and filming has already begun.

BIFA winner Robinson (center) plays pushy mother Natalie and is joined by protagonists Eva Morgan (left) and Sadie Soverall (second from right), who play Kelly and Jessica respectively. Also on board are Warren Brown (right), of Luther and Liar fame, as Kelly's hard-working single parent Paul, and Richard Coyle (second from left) as successful attorney Jules, along with Sonny Walker (The Responder), Luca Kamleh-Chapman and Hebron Tedros.

The Gathering got the green light last year and revolves around the violent attack on a teenage girl on an island. Set on Merseyside, the drama questions the ways in which today's parents push their agendas. It focuses on a group of teens from different backgrounds, all of whom could have committed the crime along with their parents - giving equal cause for suspicion.

Walsh, who directed the 2016 film The Violators, said: "I'm delighted to have a brilliant cast on board, led by such established talent. Our young actors, many of them newcomers, have wowed us with their raw and heartfelt depiction of teenagers navigating adult issues in a morally ambiguous world."

The series was commissioned by Channel 4 by Caroline Hollick, Head of Drama, and Gwawr Lloyd, Commissioning Editor, Drama. Executive producers are Simon Heath, Laura Cotton, Helen Walsh and Gareth Bryn for World Productions and the producer is Graham Drover. Episodes 1, 2, 5 and 6 are directed by Bryn (Line of Duty) and Amanda Blue (Maternal) directs 3 and 4. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

The series is Line of Duty producer World's first Channel 4 series since 2017 when it was behind Born to Kill (2017).
