From writer and executive producer Michael Seitzman, the Lionsgate and Blumhouse series follows Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan) who, fresh out of law school, takes on veteran attorney Leo Drummond (John Slattery) and his girlfriend Sarah Plankmore (Madison Iseman). Rudy, together with his boss and her assistant, discover two conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client's son.
In a series regular role, Parrilla (pictured) plays brash, brash street attorney Jocelyn "Bruiser" Stone who heads the law firm of her disgraced father, J. Lyman Stone.
In the novel, Rudy is hired by the elder Stone, a glorified ambulance chaser nicknamed Bruiser, as an associate at his law firm. Mickey Rourke played J. Lyman Stone in Francis Ford Coppola's 1997 film adaptation of the novel.
The Rainmaker received a series order from cable network NBCUniversal in June, ending a six-year journey by Seitzman to bring the book to television. Seitzman and Jason Richman wrote the script for the pilot and Seitzman served as the series' showrunner. The two produce alongside Grisham, Jason Blum and David Gernert.
Parrilla is known for her television roles as Regina Mills/The Evil Queen on ABC's Once Upon a Time and Lisa Trammell, a chef accused of murder on Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer season two. She also starred in Paramount+'s Why Women Kill, ABC's Lost and Fox's 24.
