In collaboration with the VPRO, the film-making duo David-Jan Bronsgeest and Tim Koomen are working on a series adaptation. The series is being developed within the talent scheme NPO Start Next – Fiction of the public broadcaster. The direction is in the hands of Lisette Donkersloot (known for the series Sihame).
After the rave reviews last year for the Dutch horror film Jimmy, starring Rick Paul van Mulligen, Isa Hoes and Thijs Boermans, and after they scored high with the medium-length film Binary that same year as part of the Koolhoven Presenteert series of the VPRO, Bronsgeest and Koomen are now adapting her acclaimed novel into a film adaptation in collaboration with Hanna Bervoets (photo). The film adaptation rights have been secured for two years.
Alles Wat Er Was is considered a modern classic and is one of the best-rated books on the reading list of high school students. The story follows eight people who get trapped in a school building after a mysterious explosion. Cut off from the outside world and confronted with dwindling food supplies, tensions rise within the group. What remains of human values such as love, loyalty and friendship when the rest of the world seems to have disappeared?
Hanna Bervoets (1984) is one of the most prominent contemporary Dutch writers. With nine novels to her name, multiple literary awards and translations into various languages, she has had a lasting impact on Dutch literature. Alles Wat Er Was was published in 2013 and became a bestseller over the years.
