The eight-episode first season is based on the 1981 film of the same name, directed by and starring Alan Alda. The series has been on air since earlier this month.
Alda has a cameo in the series, co-created by lead actress Tina Fey, Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. The main cast includes Fey as Kate, Will Forte as Jack, Colman Domingo as Danny, Marco Calvani as Claude, Steve Carell as Nick, Erika Henningsen as Ginny and Kerri Kenney-Silver as Anne.
Described as "a love letter to long marriages and old friendships," the series follows a group of six friends who go on vacation together when Carrell's Nick spreads the word that he wants to leave his wife, Anne. From there, the three couples—one of whom is separated—navigate the new dynamic of splitting time between Nick and Anne, while the other two couples struggle with their own issues that come with being together for a long time.
Two episodes each focus on a separate journey of the main characters, who travel in each season: spring, summer, fall, and winter.
Domingo directed the sixth episode of the first season, titled Ultimate Frisbee. There is much to tell after the penultimate episode and the finale of the first season, with one main character dying in a car accident and another getting pregnant.
The Four Seasons is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
