The first full look at Noah Hawley's take on the Alien universe suggests a much more ambitious idea than previously shared.

FX has released the first official trailer for Alien: Earth, an ambitious new series from Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) set within the iconic Alien universe. The footage reveals a much larger and more complex world than previous incarnations of the franchise, suggesting a story that combines the classic horror of xenomorphs with a deeper exploration of technology, humanity, and the predatory extraterrestrial threats.

The official description: "In the year 2120, Earth is ruled by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. In this Corporate Age, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game changes when the prodigious founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unleashes a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots imbued with human consciousness).

The first prototype, Wendy (played by Sydney Chandler), is the flagship of Prodigy Corporation and symbolizes the latest step toward immortality. When a Weyland-Yutani spaceship crashes in Prodigy City, Wendy encounters lifeforms more terrifying than anything humans have ever encountered — including the iconic xenomorphs and possibly new alien species."

The trailer lays out the premise of the series - a crashed spaceship brings the dreaded Alien xenomorph to Earth. But the trailer also contains a rather intriguing surprise, as a character says: "This ship collected five different life forms from the darkest corners of the universe. Monsters... Invasive species. Predatory."

Alien: Earth looks set to reinvent the Alien franchise with a bold mix of technological dystopia, philosophical questions around identity and evolution, and brutal extraterrestrial horror. With Noah Hawley at the helm and Ridley Scott serving as executive producer, this is set to be one of the most ambitious and genre-bending chapters in Alien history. Fans of sci-fi, horror, and intricate world-building will want to check this out.

The series premieres Tuesday, August 12 on FX and Hulu. Watch the trailer below.
