The popular documentary Welcome to Wrexham is getting a spin-off: Necaxa, premiering soon on FXX in the US.

Necaxa follows Club Necaxa, one of Mexico’s oldest and most iconic soccer clubs. The series is produced by FX and Disney+ Latin America and will consist of 10 episodes. In the series, actress and producer Eva Longoria attempts to breathe new life into Club Necaxa, along with co-owners Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds.

Rob Mac is better known as Rob McElhenney (from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), but he recently officially changed his name to Rob Mac, as it's easier to pronounce, especially for non-English speakers. His difficult surname has been a running joke among Wrexham owners and fans for years, something that was made clear in a birthday video Reynolds made for him in 2023.

In that musical video, Reynolds, along with McElhenney's wife Kaitlin Olson, among others, humorously explained how to pronounce "McElhenney" — it rhymes with "tackle penny." However, Rob has now opted for a simpler pronunciation, much to the chagrin of his children, who still bear the original family name.

Necaxa is described as a “penetrating, bilingual documentary” that captures a turbulent and transformative period for the club. The series shows personnel changes, career-defining injuries, and the perseverance of a team determined to exceed expectations and bring hope back to the city of Aguascalientes.

Club Necaxa, once a powerhouse in Mexican football, has a history of instability, relocations and constant renewal. Despite the many setbacks, a loyal core of fans continues to believe in a glorious return of their beloved ‘Rayos’.

Nexaca premieres on Thursday, August 7 on FX. The first three weeks will air two episodes on Thursdays, followed by four weekly episodes through the season finale on September 18. Episodes will debut on Hulu the following day and will be available internationally on Disney+.
