After a three-year wait, the first sneak peek at the final season of Stranger Things is finally here. Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for season five of the popular coming-of-age sci-fi series. The footage promises plenty of spectacle and emotion, but the storylines are still largely under wraps.
The new season will be released in three installments, each around the holidays: Volume 1 will be released on November 26th (four episodes), Volume 2 on Christmas Day (three episodes), and The Finale on New Year's Eve.
According to the official description, the story takes place in the fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening Rifts, and the group has one common goal: to find and eliminate Vecna. But Vecna has disappeared, and the government has placed the city under military quarantine and is hunting Eleven again, forcing her into hiding.
As the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaches, a familiar, ominous feeling grows. The ultimate battle draws closer, with a darker force than ever before. To end this nightmare, they will all have to fight together—one last time.
Ross Duffer previously stated that the final season is their biggest and most ambitious yet. They filmed over 650 hours of footage, comparable to eight blockbuster films. Matt Duffer added that it is also their most personal story, full of intensity and emotion, for both the creators and the actors.
In November, Netflix revealed the episode titles, including "The Crawl," "The Turnbow Trap," "Sorcerer," and "The Rightside Up."
The Duffer brothers also teased that more stories from the Stranger Things universe are in development. While they can't reveal much about them yet, they emphasize that each new project must be unique and of high quality.
The lead roles are reprised by Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Priah Ferguson, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Joe Keery, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, and Brett Gelman, among others.
