In the first full trailer of the upcoming Netflix miniseries Wayward, Toni Collette shines as Evelyn Wade, the cold director of Tall Pines Academy, an institution for "troubled youth" that promises to "solve the problem of adolescence." However, behind her glasses lurks a sinister reality: children who enter the school seem to emerge as something entirely different.
Mae Martin plays police officer Alex Dempsey, who, along with their pregnant wife (played by Sarah Gadon, herself a former student of Evelyn's school), moves to Tall Pines. There, Alex discovers that the seemingly perfect community harbors disturbing secrets. Two students, Abbie (Sydney Topliffe) and Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind), want to escape and turn out to be crucial in unraveling the disappearances that may trace back to the Academy.
Wayward is one of the first Netflix Canada Originals. The series is part of the official selection of the Toronto International Film Festival, where Martin will also discuss their new project in a special session.
Netflix describes Wayward as "a thrilling, genre-bending limited series about the eternal struggle between generations, about friendship and loyalty under pressure, and about how buried truths always resurface."
The series consists of eight episodes and will be released worldwide on Thursday, September 25th on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
