The new season of the Videoland series Máxima will be made with a different cast. Lead actors Delfina Chaves, who portrays Queen Máxima, and Martijn Lakemeier, who plays King Willem-Alexander, will not return for the announced third season.
The upcoming second season focuses mainly on the period around the wedding of Máxima and Willem-Alexander, Máxima's inauguration, and her search for her own place within the Dutch royal family. That season will be available weekly on Videoland starting Saturday, March 14. The first episode will also air on RTL 4 the same evening at 9:20 PM.
The third season will showcase a new phase in the story. According to broadcaster RTL, the focus shifts to the first ten years of Willem-Alexander and Máxima's reign. Since the story takes place about fifteen years later, the creators have decided to cast a new generation of actors.
In addition to the lead roles of Máxima and Willem-Alexander, the roles of Constantijn van Oranje, Friso van Oranje, Mabel van Oranje, and Laurentien van Oranje will also be played by different actors.
Producer Rachel van Bommel of Millstreet Films explains that the new season will show how Willem-Alexander and Máxima fulfill their roles as king and queen while simultaneously dealing with their work, responsibilities, and growing children. According to her, this period offers plenty of room for new stories. She also emphasizes that the creators are proud of what the current cast has achieved and how they have given viewers a rare glimpse behind the normally closed doors of the royal family.
Which actors will play the new versions of the royal characters will be announced later. An official release date for the third season has also not yet been announced.
