Graceland - Pilot

Eager to find out more about the connection between the estate of a self-centered rock idol and undercover agents, I ventured watching the pilot of ‘Graceland’.

In the first episode of the series, we are introduced to Mike Warren (Aaron Tveit, 'Gossip Girl'). A rookie from the academy with a brand new FBI badge that is unexpectedly placed in a group of undercover agents who operate from and live in ‘Graceland’, a large estate in South California. He is substituting for another agent who got injured during an operation that went wrong.

Mike’s trainer will be Paul Briggs (Daniel Sunjata, 'Rescue Me'). Briggs, a promising agent with a great carreer, turns out to be quite the opposite of what Mike expected him to be.

Briggs’ right hand is Joe ‘Johnny’ Tuturro (Manny Montana), and straight upon arrival Mike knows Johnny is fulfilling the role of the clown within Graceland as he is always pulling pranks and loves practical jokes.
At Graceland, Mike is appointed the room of the injured Donnie. Even before he has finished unpacking his suitcase, he is faced with Donnie’s partner, Paige Arkin (Serinda Swan, 'Breakout Kings'), who does not respond very well to the fact that her partner has been replaced so easily by someone else.

Catherine ‘Charlie’ Demarco (Vanessa Verlito, 'CSI: NY') is the second lady at Graceland, and she is the group’s chameleon. She is able to adapt herself in all situations and is able to fool many a criminal – and Mike! – with this.

The final inhabitant of Graceland we meet in this first episode is a man called Dale ‘DJ’ Jakes (Brandon Jay McLaren) who highly values his privacy and personal properties.

Although Mike was meant to slowly adapt to his new life and become acquainted with his colleagues, he is forced to submerge in the action as he is appointed the lead role in an undercover mission which does not progress as planned.

I was hoping to find out more about this series, and by watching the first episode I must admit I am certainly looking forward to watching more episodes! Although not much can be said yet about the development of the plot, the (right amount of) action shots, characters and sense of humour certainly appeals to me. Several events from the past have touched upon, which will hopefully be elaborated on more as the series progresses. I also expect that Mike, at the end of this first episode of ‘Graceland’ will be awarded a special mission about which the other inhabitants are not informed. This might be an interesting plot twist for the rest of the season.
