Grey's Anatomy - Season 10 (Part two)

The second half of this anniversary is consistent to say the least. If there's one show that has found its groove in later seasons, it's 'Grey's Anatomy'.

The thirteenth episode answers the delicious cliffhanger on April's (Sarah Drew) wedding. Meanwhile, the complications between Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are stacking up now the President himself has asked Derek to join the very project he promised to abandon. In a nice twist the romantic engagements in the hospital are being forbidden, which can't last long considering it's the life of the series. Particularly for Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington), the new rule causes quite a stir, considering their different takes on their conversation in the fall finale.

As the relationship troubles and difficult procedures continue as always, there's an underlying vibe to the season. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) is leaving us and at the start of the calendar year it's still left up in the year as to how she will do this. Cristina's relationship with Owen (Kevin McKidd) seems to be over now that he's with Emma (Margeurite Moreau, 'Shameless'). For her research, Cristina is in the race for a Harper Avery award, which motivates much of her story going forward. In the episode Do You Know? we are treated to a Sliding Doors version of a life the viewers will never witness. It's a gripping, beautiful homage to an exemplorary character that will forever be in our hearts. Here we are, ten years later, having been through the craziest drama all with the sceptic but honest opinion of Dr. Yang ever present. She's one of the first women on television who didn't let herself be defined by a guy in her life. She doesn't want children and is resilient on that front. She fight, nay lives, for her job and doesn't apologize for it. Sure she can be a bit harsh but her good, sympathetic and loyal heart is undoubtedly in the right place. With Sandra Oh an important foundation of the series will depart and be surely missed. In her own way Cristina defined a generation and we were all lucky enough to have witnessed it week in week out for a decade.

Just like last year we end this season with a couple of ongoing stories. One family is put through hell when two out of three children become sick. Another family is faced with a mystery when their son has a rare affliction. These two cases carry much of the medical load in the back half of the season. While the show is effortlessly juggling its characters in the spotlight, it sometimes overshadows the patients. The mother of the three kids (Rebecca Field, 'October Road'), for example, has a significant part in the episodes but doesn't quite resonate as well as she should. Luckily we do have some good material for the regular crowd. The season finale especially serves everyone. If only because this is the last time we get to witness the iconic friendship of Meredith and Cristina, the second part of season ten is worth your while.
