Grimm - Season 5 (DVD)

Season four of Grimm left us with a lot of unfinished story, which made sure that I couldn't wait to see the next season. The beginning of the fifth season could result in a bit of confusion, due to all the various unknown groups being introduced. As the season continues, everything starts to become a bit clearer. Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, Privileged) is a Grimm who becomes increasingly likeable. It is fun to see him grow and deal with all the new cases as his job at the police department is more of a nuisance than a blessing at certain times. Unfortunately, after the fifth season there will only be one more, but on the other hand I see that as positive as it means that the show won't be milked out too much.

Adalind (Clair Coffee, General Hospital) has always been my favourite character and that feeling increases during season five. Nick has gone through a lot in season four, and I'm afraid it won't be any easier for him in season five, but still he manages to make the best out of his situation. Fortunately he has his friends Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, Prison Break) and Rosalee (Bree Turner, Masters of Horror) to assist him, alongside his partner Hank (Russel Hornsby, Seven Seconds) who's also there for him.

Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch, lonelygirl15) is a person who I don't like and haven't liked since season 1. I have never believed she would support Nick. That she started to derail in season four didn't come as a surprise. Her role improves over the course of season 5, which almost leads to some appreciation for her character. We also see a lot more of Wu (Reggie Lee, The Journey of Allen Strange), who has to face a difficult challenge during this season.

Raising a baby with your arch-nemesis, how do you do that? It's not that easy for Nick, but he gives it his best. Adalind shows a whole new side of herself, which is also a nice message: a person isn't either fully good or evil. Monroe and Rosalee are a lot more prominent as well, which I think is a good thing. I really like their herbal store, where you can find anything you may need. As of season four, the basement of the shop has become a lot more important and that makes the shop even more interesting.

The extras on the DVD are also worth your while, as it features several deleted scenes. For most of these deleted scenes I actually understand why they didn't make it into the show, but some of them could've actually been used to improve the storyline. Sometimes things just happen way too fast and these extra scenes would've made things more clear. You would think that the creators are working their way towards the end, as there's only one more season after this one, but that isn't the case. The storylines are still going on and developing. In the next season, I obviously expect some form of closure, but how that'll happen is something I'm not entirely sure of. Seeing as the creators are quite creative, I am convinced that it won't be predictable.
