Hacks - Season 3
Between all the witty humor, Hacks also knows how to touch the viewer with emotion at the right moment.
I think Hacks is great. Let's get straight to the point. Comedy is more often than not not my thing. It's only certain specific humor that I can appreciate, think of 2 Broke Girls for example. Hacks certainly belong in the second category. Hacks is funny and witty, which is wonderful. But what I appreciate most is the story. There is a good story in this series. A story full of witty humor, after all we follow a legendary comedienne who is partly based on Joan Rivers. But the story is also packed with emotional moments, it is full of sincere people and the characters undergo fantastic developments. It's not flat.
If you're not familiar with Hacks, a quick summary: we follow Deborah Vance (played by the great Jean Smart, Mare of Easttown), a legendary comedienne who is making her comeback. She is forced to be supported in this by comedy writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder, Julia). The two appear to be a golden duo. Ava is completely immersed in Deborah's wild, and sometimes slightly out-of-touch life. This relationship develops over the three seasons in interesting and heartfelt ways. I think that is very well done.
It's really nice to see that the series gets the chance to develop. In today's streaming era, many series do not get the chance to develop because they are canceled after the second or even first season. Hacks is a good example of how a series can only get better if given the chance to develop. Because not only the characters, but also the writing team and the story develop. That can only happen if one is given the opportunity to do so. I think that's nice to see.
In short, a highlight that you really must see. An 8.5 for this third season! (and season four is already underway).
