
“If I don’t deal with him, there is a family who lost a daughter, who will never get answers,” Reed says at one point in the trailer for the drama inspired by a true-life story.
After decades of estrangement, Jerperson reenters his daughter’s life, and Reed, who tries to solve the crime her father committed, is faced with a balancing act between her own identity and the impact the Happy Face killer had on the families of his victims.
Prior to that, Reed had changed her name and kept secret the fact that her father was a prolific serial killer serving life in prison. “He wasn’t always a monster. He became one. Before that, he was just my dad,” Reed explains at one point.
The eight-part series for Paramount+ premieres with two episodes on Thursday, March 20, with new episodes dropping weekly leading up to the season finale on May 1.
Happy Face also stars James Wolk, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne and Benjamin Mackey. The series is based on the Happy Face podcast and the memoir Shattered Silence , written by Melissa G. Moore and M. Bridget Cook.
