How to Die Alone stars Rothwell as "a poor, fat, black JFK employee who has never been in love and has forgotten how to dream, until a chance encounter with death sets her on a journey to finally fly and live by any means necessary." Conrad Ricamora, Jocko Sims and KeiLyn Durrel Jones also star.
Rothwell indicated in an Instagram post that she’ll try to find a new home for the show, writing, “This is hard to comprehend. … My heart is aches for the incredible cast, crew and writers who gave their all to tell this story. I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity, and appreciate all of the love and support given to me and the show. Now, my prayer is that this news will be but a comma in the HTDA story, not a period. Onward.”
The series was critically acclaimed, with Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter calling it "nothing but a great story – warm, funny and even life-affirming at times".
Rothwell and Vera Santamaria served as co-showrunners on How to Die Alone and co-produced with Desiree Akhavan and Jude Weng.
