I understand the disappointed reactions of Anne Rice fans, but let's be honest, a slaveholder and plantation owner might not be the best choice as a main character in these sensitive times.

I've read the books, even reread some of them, and am therefore a huge fan of Lestat, Louis, and Armand. I wouldn't really call the series "woke," granted, they've taken the homoerotic tension from the books quite far (vampires, like angels, don't have reproductive organs in Rice's original text; they simply never have sex), but once you accept that Louis and Claudia's characters are people of color, I don't think it's that woke.

What always bothers me more about almost all current series is that the production companies and streaming services persistently promote smoking. If cigarettes aren't allowed, people will smoke weed. As long as smoking is allowed. And it's always presented as cool and fun. Incomprehensible!

Sam Reed is fantastic as the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt. There's little difference here from the Lestat in the book series. He's mysterious, capricious, brutal, and sometimes cruel, but always fascinating. Lestat enchants both his audience and the viewer. I also really liked the atmosphere and the overall feel of the series; beautiful sets and props, powerful special effects, and a roaring soundtrack.

I'm already looking forward to the third season, when filming of book two, The Vampire Lestat, will begin. And I'm especially looking forward to the scenes set in 18th-century France, where Lestat, the youngest son of the Lioncourts, has little to expect from life and develops into a skilled hunter and is called "the wolf slayer."

Watched 1 ep. Horrible. Another franchise screwed up by the current woke crap.
