Ironheart - Season 1

Ironheart is a decent Marvel series that lacks a bit of heart. It's not exactly surprising, but it's entertaining and lays the groundwork for a potentially interesting future.
Ironheart was marketed as the "new Iron Man." After all, both films feature a person without supernatural powers (aside from being a genius) who has created an iron/mechanical suit that allows them to combat people/beings with supernatural powers. The main difference, however, is that Ironheart lacks the charisma and humor that Robert Downey Jr. brings to Iron Man. Dominique Thorne's portrayal of Riri Williams (aka Ironheart) is certainly not bad, but the lightheartedness is lacking. Despite having a supporting role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, she was much better there.

Ironheart is about Riri Williams, a genius who attends a prestigious program at MIT on a scholarship. During her studies, she's primarily focused on creating an advanced suit, paying little attention to anything else. Her greatest desire is to help people with the suit. Quite early in the series, she loses her scholarship (not a spoiler, mind you) and is desperately searching for ways to continue developing the suit, which is very expensive.

She comes into contact with The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos, who is willing to support Riri financially. Of course, this is in exchange for favors, which often involve robbing someone or a company. The Hood is a mysterious figure who (appropriately) wears a cape and possesses magical powers. Since Riri wants to make the suit at all costs, she teams up with The Hood (who collaborates with other criminals). Naturally, her conscience eventually becomes a problem.

Ironheart consists of six episodes, each lasting between 40 and 57 minutes. As you've come to expect from Marvel productions, it looks sleek, features spectacular action scenes, and is entertaining to watch with the occasional joke. Ironheart is no different in that regard. Plenty of solid action, looks sleek, and is certainly entertaining. It is, however, very predictable and follows the same standard formula as other Marvel productions. Everything builds up to a massive battle, only to tease what might happen in the future at the end, but in my opinion, it's slightly less effective. In that respect, I think the Ironheart series is lacking some heart.

It's not yet clear whether there will be a second season of Ironheart, but it's expected that she (Riri) will appear in another Marvel series. If you're selective about which (Marvel) series to watch, I wouldn't put this one high on your list. It's still entertaining, but there's little that will stick with you.

Ironheart is an entertaining, yet highly predictable series. The cast is strong, and the series offers plenty of action and plenty of depth and drama. Nevertheless, it follows the standard Marvel formula. It offers nothing new, and therefore misses the core of what the series should be about: "heart."

Based on the above, the first season of Ironheart receives a 6.

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.

The whole Marvel thing has been completely heartless for a few years now. It's become a vague, unclear mess with that multiverse, and new films and series are usually repetitive, with a lot of (often poor) CGI and absolutely no surprises anymore.
I've said it before, but for me, Endgame was also "The End" for Marvel. I've seen a few more since then, but nothing really appealed to me.

Exactly the same here. Endgame was the end for me, and everything I've seen since, which wasn't much, was very subpar.
