The story is set in 1962, at a time when the community first encounters mysterious disappearances. In the trailer, a child wonders if someone could keep a friend trapped underground, in the sewers—a question that will haunt the residents of Derry for generations.

Amid the footage, Pennywise appears, hiding behind the infamous red balloon, as panic erupts and a girl with a bloodied face is shown screaming.

The series, consisting of nine episodes, promises to be a disturbing and intense viewing experience. As the trailer warns: “Something bad is coming.”

IT: Welcome to Derry premieres on Sunday, October 26, on HBO Max. The following day, Monday, October 27, the episode will be available in the Netherlands. The series is a prequel to Stephen King's famous novel It and the successful films by Andy Muschietti, which together grossed over $1.17 billion worldwide.

In addition to Skarsgård, the cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.

The trailer immediately sets the tone: mystery, suspense, and a threat lurking beneath the seemingly tranquil Derry. With the iconic red balloon and shocking visuals, the series stays true to Stephen King's terrifying DNA. With the return of Pennywise and a glimpse into Derry's dark origins, IT: Welcome to Derry is a must-see for any horror fan, and let's hope it's truly worth it.

Pennywise must be a kind of Jaws. The shark was barely seen in the film, but knowing it was there was enough to build enormous tension.
They did a good job in the first "IT" film. But in the second film, there was far too much Pennywise, which, in my opinion, made it lose its impact. Hopefully, they'll return to the "Jaws" approach in this series.

I also wonder why there always has to be such a racist hook. Can't we just tell an exciting story featuring people of color without resorting to "white people are bad" rhetoric?

It seems like the makers of IT have been reading along here :-D
In this article, Andy and Barbara Muschietti even literally talk about a “Jaws-esque” approach to showing Pennywise:
