Despite the two-season renewal early last year, there's not going to be a sixth season after all. Future plans for the series have changed. The series will now end with the upcoming fifth season. It was a co-production between CBC and Netflix.
The creators have decided to focus on other projects. The producers said the following in a statement: "At the end of production on Season 5, our two co-creators confirmed they were moving onto other projects. Given their departure from the series, we have come to the difficult conclusion that we cannot deliver another season of the same heart and quality that has made the show so special. Despite the restrictions and complications of shooting during the pandemic, Season 5 is our finest season to date."
It was announced today that the current season of #kimsconvenience will be our last and we will not make a season 6. It’s a bittersweet end to one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’m so proud of what we’ve done and want to reflect and thank those who made it possible. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/NulUp4R6Ln

Kim's Convenience tells the story of the Kim family, a Korean-Canadian family that runs a supermarket in the centre of Toronto. Mr and Ms Kim, "Appa" and "Umma", immigrated to Toronto in the 80s. They have two children, both are young adults.
