Knights of Sidonia - Seizoen 1

Knight of Sidonia or Sidonia no Kishi is an anime created by Polygon Pictures and released on the streaming service Netflix. It currently has 2 seasons, but it is said that season 3 is in the make. The anime is based on the manga created by Tsutomu Nihei, which has 15 volumes and I can definitely recommend it.

In the first season of this amazing anime, we follow Nagate Tanikaze. A 15-year-old, who has lived underground for his entire life. When he is through his last supplies of food, Nagate Tanikaze ventures outside his home to look for food when he is spotted and captured by the local security, while trying to steal some rice. One of the cadets, Shizuka Hoshijiro, accompanies Nagate and while he is being questioned by the police, a man called Ochiai appears and takes him to Captain Kobayashi, the highest authority of Sidonia.

He begins to train and is sent on his first sortie, a mining mission on a nearby asteroid. But this goes horribly wrong. An old enemy comes out of the shadows, the Gauna have re-appeared. Nagate is being haunted by his first battlefield experience. A few awesome episodes later, Nagate and his crew become official pilots. They have to move out immediately, but the enemy is way bigger and deadlier than they thought. Nagate gets blamed for the failure of the mission and discovers that one of his loved ones has died. But, Nagate gets over it and fights the Gauna like never before.

The first season of the AMAZING anime was really good. What you have read above is just a very brief description of the complete first season. It has so much to cover, I could write a ten-page summary. I watched both the Japanese and the English versions and I have to say, some things are meant to be kept original. The anime covers the manga very well, however it isn’t a replacement. The manga has some things that weren’t in the anime. But, even without the parts that weren’t in the anime, you could follow the story very well.
