The Green Lantern Corps has found its Guy Gardner in Nathan Fillion for HBO's Lanterns.Lanterns, the upcoming DC Studios series for HBO, has cast Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, one of the characters known as The Green Lantern in DC Comics mythology. Fillion plays Gardner in this summer's Superman and will reprise the role in the HBO series.
Fillion (pictured) stars in ABC’s The Rookie, which premiered its seventh season in January. He recently appeared in Netflix’s The Recruit, which was canceled after two seasons, and was heard on Fox’s Krapopolis.
Lanterns was picked up last year by Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen (2019), Lost) and comics writer Tom King. The trio co-writes and produces the series, with Mundy serving as showrunner.
Kyle Chandler plays another Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, in the series, along with a new recruit to the force played by Aaron Pierre. The description says that the series will see “new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic agents, drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the heart of America.”
Jason Ritter, Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen are also on the cast list. The series is another attempt by DC Studios to expand its film franchise to premium television, following The Penguin, which debuted to critical acclaim on HBO last year.
