Laura H. is a miniseries about the caliphate girl from Zoetermeer.Laura H. is a series in the true story segment. The makers have added some fiction left and right and no one knows whether the story Laura H tells matches reality.
Laura H is an IS bride who followed her husband to the Middle East, where the terrorist group held sway. Laura crossed the desert away from IS together with her two children and was welcomed and imprisoned there by the Kurds.
Just like in Flanders, the Dutch government was not eager to take back IS brides, so it was mainly her own family in the Netherlands who had to take steps to get her back in the Netherlands.
In the first episode we see how Laura ends up with the Kurds after her escape. In addition, the series returns in time to show how single mother Laura converts to Islam and meets her husband Ibrahim. She also struggles with coming out about her conversion because she knows her family will not tolerate this.
The makers have clearly opted for a certain integrity and do not comment on whether Laura H tells the truth, conceals things or simply lies altogether. The scenario is largely derived from the book that investigative journalist Thomas Reub wrote about the Caliphate Girl of Zoetermeer.
I don't know whether it was conscious that just after the broadcast of the first episode, they broadcast the documentary Daughters of The Sun on VPRO about Yazidi women and girls kidnapped by IS who were trafficked, humiliated and raped by IS fighters, but I got I still have the feeling that the VPRO wanted to express some kind of point of view by programming that documentary at that moment.
About the writer, Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
I really have no idea why these people get so much attention. As far as I'm concerned, she should have just been in jail instead of being feted with a book, a series and countless talk show appearances. In a word, disgusting!
