NBC has renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order for the 2025-26 season. SVU will begin its 27th season in the fall, while L&O will begin its 25th season. Together, the two series will have aired 1,096 episodes by the end of this season.
The Law & Order renewals follow NBC’s renewals of all three Chicago series. The acquisitions ensure that the two franchises – which hail from mega-producer Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV – will remain intact on NBC next season, as the network shrinks its scripted footprint to make room for primetime NBA broadcasts. The third current Law & Order series, Law & Order: Organized Crime, is now streaming on Peacock and is midway through its fifth season.
Both series continue to draw reliable audiences for NBC, with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit averaging about 5.9 million viewers and Law & Order pulling in about 5.2 million in Nielsen's seven-day linear ratings — and significantly more on streaming. NBC reports that streaming of L&O on Peacock has more than doubled this season (though it didn't provide detailed numbers) compared to 2023-24. SVU ranks 21st among all network series in Nielsen's 35-day, all-platform ratings for the season with 8.7 million viewers. NBC reports that 44 million people have watched at least some of both shows this season.
