The casting follows two months after the departure of Mehcad Brooks, who portrayed detective Jalen Shaw for three seasons. Interestingly, Scott's character will work without a partner in the first episodes of this anniversary season — something rarely seen in the series' history, where two detectives typically solve murders together.
In addition to Scott, other regular cast members from season 24 are returning: Maura Tierney, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi, and Tony Goldwyn.
Ajala is best known as Cleveland Booker in Star Trek: Discovery and has also played roles in Supergirl (The CW), Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue (MGM+), The Jetty (BBC), and Falling Water (USA Network). Soon, he will also be seen in the Netflix film The Woman in Cabin 10, which premieres on October 10.
