Molly Burnett leaves Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Fans of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will have to say goodbye to Molly Burnett, who is leaving the NBC series after less than a year.

The news follows the shock announcement that another regular cast member, Kelli Giddish, would be leaving the series in August. Her last episode as a regular cast member was episode nine of season 24. Giddish reprized the role of Amanda Rollins in the season finale of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Organized Crime where she revealed she is pregnant.

Burnett (pictured) joined the series in July 2022 as Detective Grace Muncy, debuting in the second episode of Season 24 titled "The One You Feed." Burnett is also known for her role on Queen of the South, in which she played Kelly Anne van Awken, and guest roles on True Blood, Longmire, and Chicago PD, among others.

In the same SVU finale where Rollins was revealed to be pregnant, Muncy's departure was also announced. However, it was TVLine that first revealed that actress Burnett would be leaving the series. Could this vacancy now be filled by Rollins after all? The answer is still unknown, but the episode certainly gives fans hope.

Series producers Wolf Entertainment shared a clip of the character's emotional farewell, which can be viewed below.
