©Deadline - Eric Zachanowich/NetflixThe original television series Little House on the Prairie premiered on NBC in 1974 and eventually ran for nine seasons. The series, based on the book by Laura Ingalls Wilder, premieres on Thursday, July 9.
The new series is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content. Rebecca Sonnenshine serves as showrunner and is also an executive producer, along with Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions, and additionally Dana Fox and Susanna Fogel.
Friendly has a special connection to the project: his father Ed Friendly originally acquired the television and film rights to Wilder's books, which ultimately led to the NBC series in 1974. In 2020, Friendly sold the rights for a reboot to Paramount TV Studios and Anonymous Content.
Sonnenshine expressed her gratitude for the work of the cast and crew, who she says poured their heart and soul into the first season. She looks forward to sharing this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world and is pleased that Netflix is giving the opportunity to continue the story.
