Love Game in Eastern Fantasy - Season 1

What if you suddenly found yourself trapped inside a romantic fantasy story and the only way to survive was to make the most dangerous man in it fall in love with you?
The description of Love Game in Eastern Fantasy immediately gave me the feeling that I was about to watch a romance novel come to life. That alone made me curious right away. From the moment the series began, it had me hooked, especially because Ling Miaomiao is literally pulled into the world of the story and has to follow the rules of the game in order to leave it. That premise alone makes the drama feel playful and addictive.

Because she is forced to complete tasks she does not even agree with, the story constantly creates situations that are funny, awkward, and chaotic at the same time. The game element never feels like a gimmick. It becomes the true engine of the plot. What worked best for me, though, was the development between the two leads, Ling Miaomiao and Mu Sheng.

Ling Miaomiao is played by Yu Shuxin, who many viewers will know from Love Between Fairy and Devil. Mu Sheng is played by Ding Yuxi, known for The Romance of Tiger and Rose. From the start, this is anything but an easy romance. Miaomiao has to seduce him in order to win the game, while he would much rather keep his distance and, at first, barely trusts her at all. That lack of trust makes their connection far more interesting, because the drama does not rush their relationship. Instead, it builds it slowly and intensely. By the time their feelings truly begin to change, the romance feels earned.

Yu Shuxin is one of the biggest reasons this series works so well for me. She was also the reason I started watching in the first place. Her timing, humor, and presence give Ling Miaomiao exactly the right energy. She does not just carry the lighter, comedic moments with ease, but also gets plenty of room to be strong and even a little badass. Because of that, her character becomes much more than just a cute heroine trapped in a fantasy world. She feels lively, clever, and wonderfully unpredictable.

Mu Sheng is the perfect counterpart to her. Precisely because he does not like her at first and the tension between them starts out so high, every small shift in their relationship becomes interesting. The series gets a lot of mileage out of that push and pull between attraction and distrust. It makes their romance feel intense, but also incredibly fun to watch. I especially loved the fact that Miaomiao has to seduce him against her own will, while he wants absolutely nothing to do with her. That creates not only romantic tension, but also a lot of humor, especially when her actions only end up causing more trouble.

Visually, the series does not disappoint either. The costumes and scenes look beautiful and enhance the dreamy, fairytale-like atmosphere that the drama captures so well. Everything feels as though it has stepped straight out of a webtoon or fantasy novel. That style fits the story perfectly and makes it easy to get completely swept away by its world. I also really liked Mu Sheng’s sister, who adds warmth and depth to the story without taking attention away from the central romance.

What begins as a game of survival slowly turns into a love there is no escaping.

For me, Love Game in Eastern Fantasy does not really have a major flaw. Even the moments when the game system forces Miaomiao into choices that only create more trouble remained entertaining. Because the series blends humor, romance, and fantasy so smoothly, I stayed invested the entire time. With a perfect ten as my final score, this is an absolute recommendation for anyone who loves a strong romance, a beautiful fantasy world, and a series that effortlessly transports you to another time and place.

Lajea van der Willik
Lajea is 25 and has been writing since she was seventeen. What began as an outlet has grown into her greatest passion and full-time work as a writer. Just like with series, writing allows you to completely drift away and get lost in other worlds, which is precisely what draws her to stories. She loves action and anime full of epic moments, but can also fully immerse herself in imaginative series or a delightful rom-com. For Lajea, it's all about stories that take you away from reality for a moment.
