Love Story sets new streaming record for FX

The new miniseries Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette has proven to be a major streaming success for FX.

According to FX Networks, the series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette has already amassed over 25 million viewing hours — approximately 1.5 billion minutes — for its first five episodes via Hulu and Disney+. This makes it the most-watched FX miniseries on streaming so far.

Although the series is also broadcast on the cable channel FX, nearly the entire audience comes from the two streaming platforms. Moreover, interest is growing week by week. FX does not share exact numbers per episode, but says that the most recent episode attracted 51 percent more viewing time than the premiere on February 12. The finale is scheduled for March 26.

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette follows the relationship, marriage, and tragic death of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in the 1990s. The series is praised for its detailed reconstruction of 1990s New York, although there has been criticism from members of the Kennedy family and mixed reactions from people who knew the couple personally.

The reviews are predominantly positive, and the series has also garnered a lot of attention online. According to FX, approximately 21 million posts with the hashtag #lovestory have been made on TikTok in the past month alone.

I might be too old, but 25 million hours watched is simply useless to me. I just want to see some kind of total viewership. That's much easier to understand.

Viewing hours give you a better idea of how much time people actually spend watching a series. The number of viewers alone doesn't tell you much; someone who watches five minutes counts just as much as someone who watches multiple episodes or even the entire series.
Viewing hours therefore provide a better picture of how intensively viewing is taking place.

I never expected to feel this way after watching this series. I didn't know much about JFK Jr., nor about Bessette (except for their end and 'the curse' of the Kennedys), but man... is this really well made!
