It still isn't certain whether or not there is going to be a sixth season of Lucifer. The series was 'cancelled' two times before, but the big success and the call for more appeared to result in a renewal. It appeared as if it was certain, but apparently one big contract hasn't been signed yet.
After three seasons, Netflix took over the series from FOX and a fourth season was made. In 2020, a fifth season would follow, which will be split up in two parts. When the fifth season was announced, it was immediately stated that it would also be the last. When the fans were processing the imminent goodbye, something interesting came by. Because of the success of the series, Netflix had reopened talks with Warner Bros. It didn't take long before showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson signed a contract for the sixth season. The remainder of the cast still had an ongoing contract. All but one, Tom Ellis, who is the lead character.
Early March it was revealed that Tom Ellis had signed a contract for season six and all we had to do was wait for the official announcement. Tvline.com has just reported that Tom Ellis and Warner Bros are still in discussion. These discussions have even been temporarily halted as Ellis has denied the last offer from Warner Bros. “Everyone wants Tom to be happy,” says the insider. “But there’s a limit, and it’s been reached.”, as was stated by an insider about the Warner Bros. proposal. Now it's the question whether or not both parties will be able to come to an agreement, and if that's not the case, then somewhere near the end of 2020, the curtain will finally fall for Lucifer.
Season five of Lucifer will consist of sixteen episodes. This season will be split up in two parts of eight episodes each. The first eight will be released soon, as was confirmed by Netflix earlier this week. All we can do is wait for a definitive date.
