Lucifer - Season 4

Recently Netflix announced that the fifth season of Lucifer will be the final one. Fox produced the first three seasons, after which Netflix decided to take over the show. This review focuses on the fourth and second to last season.

I am curious to see who will decide to pay a visit to Los Angeles in the fifth season.

Main character Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) is a nightclub owner, part-time sleuth and the Devil himself. He was bored in Hell and decided to come to Los Angeles, where he not only manages his own nightclub Lux and but also works as a consultant for the police, specifically the homicide department. Lucifer is based on a character from a comic published by DC Comics.

In the previous three seasons we met Lucifer, 'his detective' Chloe Decker, his family, colleagues and friends. From people to demons and angels. Instead of the biblical Cain who played a big role in the last season, we meet Eve at the beginning of the fourth season. She is not just the woman created by God to keep Adam company, but also Lucifer's first love. She has decided to leave Heaven to come to earth and pay a visit to her ex at the same time. What follows is a relationship in which each of the partners need something from the other. In the mean time, of course, there are still the usual murders and mysteries to solve. And to make matters worse, the Catholic church is after Lucifer, but help comes from an unexpected source.

You don't watch Lucifer for its realism; you have to be able to deal with the fact that the Devil has decided to spend his holiday on earth.

You don't watch Lucifer for its realism; you have to be able to deal with the fact that the Devil has decided to spend his holiday on earth. If you accept that fact, then Lucifer has a lot to offer: humour, interesting characters and once in a while a philosophical question is being raised. For example: to what extent is the devil really at fault for all the bad stuff that happens and what about free will?

The fourth season was definitely again a must-see, but with all goods things moderation is key. So I can imagine that it has been decided that the fifth season will be the end. Even though, after Cain and Eve, there are still many biblical characters available before that source has run dry. Anyway, I am curious to see who will decide to pay a visit to Los Angeles in the fifth season.
