Trailer for fifth season Magnum, P.I.

Trailer for fifth season Magnum, P.I.

Fans of Magnum, P.I. won't have to wait long for the series to return to its new network NBC.
The fifth season of the series will be released on Sunday, February 19. A trailer and poster announcing the return of the series have been released.

Magnum, P.I., a reboot of Magnum, P.I. (1980) starring Tom Sellick, ran for four seasons on CBS before being canceled by the network in May 2022.

Magnum, P.I.

The cancellation shocked Jay Hernandez, who stars as Detective Thomas Magnum in the action series. He reflected on NBC's cancellation and resurrection, per USA Today:

“It was a shock that the show was going to go away in the first place …and then just (as) surprised that it found another home,” he said. “It’s such a rare thing to happen, and watching the things that were taking pace on social media, billboards and petitions and just seeing the amount of support that the show was getting from the audience, that was humbling to me. I kind of put my head down, we do our work and sometimes you forget about people and the impact that the show has.”

Executive producer Eric Guggenheim also spoke about the cancellation of the series:

“NBC stepped in immediately. That began about a four- to six-week period where we were in limbo and discussing with NBC how to keep the show and how we would move forward.”

According to Guggenheim and cast members, viewers will see a sexier and more romantic series when it returns next month. Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang, and Amy Hill also star in the series.

NBC has ordered 20 episodes, but season five will be split into two parts. There’s no word yet when the second set of episodes will air.

It's Tom Selleck, not Sellick. And Tom Selleck was Thomas Magnum. This remake has little to do with that.

Oops, spelling mistake. This new Magnum is not a remake, but a reboot. At least, that is how it is presented by CBS and now by NBC. Just like Hawaii Five-0 (2010) was a reboot of the original Hawaii Five-0 between 1968 and 1980. A remake is usually the same characters with new actors, a reboot is a renewal of the concept, but with new characters. Although that is not always the case.

But the main character, just like in the original, is simply called Thomas Magnum. TC is then called Theodore instead of Terry, and Rick Wright is now called "Rick" Wright. Only Higgins has really changed. So that is now a woman. Both Thomassen Magnum are ex-Navy Seals. As far as I'm concerned it's a remake and not a reboot. And thanks for the correction ;-)

Reboot or remake; It's not all really original in any case. Hopefully the series will be enjoyable? :)

Nice that there will be a fifth season, I thought it was a shame that it would end just when things finally became more interesting between the 2 main characters. The season 5 trailer also shows this at the end. Furthermore, the series looks nice and what I like best is the bits you see of Hawaii. That's why I always watched Hawaii Five-O and NCIS Hawaii. I've seen the original Magnum before, but I never liked that old Magnum haha. Neither does old Higgins. But the Magnum of today is impressive and that chick Higgins is also nice to see. I'm looking forward to next season.
