Marvel's Hawkeye Season 2 not happening

Jeremy Renner opens up about why Marvel's Hawkeye won't get a second season.
The actor played the title hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reprised his role in the 2021 Disney+ miniseries, which also featured Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.

In a new interview, Renner (pictured) said he was offered "half" of his first season salary to continue playing Clint Barton aka Hawkeye.

“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” Renner said on High Performance.

Renner revealed his salary was halved following his near-fatal accident in 2023.

“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry. Why did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season?'” he continued. “This is not Marvel. This isn’t not really Disney, it’s just the penny pinchers — the accountants.”

The actor told them “to go fly a kite” following the “insult offer,” adding, “So, we didn’t see eye to eye on that, sadly. I still love the character, I’d still love to do it but I had to defend myself.”

Renner noted that he wasn't asking for more money for the second season of Marvel's Hawkeye and only wanted them to pay him the same amount they paid him in the first season.

“It was a little disheartening that it didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But, we’ll see,” he said.

A Disney insider disputed Renner's claims, but did not go into details.

Too bad, I would have liked to see a second season.

Totally agree. Too bad Hawkeye won't get a sequel. It was a fresh, smaller Marvel series with fun characters and a lot of potential.

I agree with him. I think it's a shame that there won't be a 2nd season

That's fine, I completely agree with him. If a behemoth like Disney wants to treat its human capital like that, then there are consequences.

I haven't seen this series by the way. But since Renner is in it I would give it a chance, despite it being Marvel/Disney. But... does the first season end nicely? Or is there a cliffhanger? Because then I'll skip.

It's been a while since I've seen this series, but Hawkeye largely wraps up the first season I think. The main storylines come to an end, but there are enough loose ends left that make you curious about what might come next.

I found Hawkeye to be a fun and fresh addition to the Marvel universe. It is especially recommended if you are looking for something lighter, with cool characters and a cozy, festive atmosphere. The cast is good in their roles and the humor works surprisingly well.

Oh yeah, and it's only six episodes, so you'll quickly figure out if it's for you.

I still thought it was the best Marvel series, while I thought Hawkeye was the least fun of all the Avengers. Jeremy Renner on the other hand, great actor!

You were absolutely right, Richard. The first season is a fully wrapped up story without cliffhangers. Of course it can go further, but the fact that there will be no second season is not a disaster story-wise.
But now that I've seen it, I think it's a shame, because it's a really funny series and I would have liked to see more of it.
