Showtime announced that Betsy Brandt, known from ‘Breaking Bad’, will play a role in the second season of ‘Masters of Sex’. Brandt will play the recurring role of Barbara, Dr. William Masters’ new secretary. The part was previously played by Margo Martindale (‘The Americans’, ‘Justified’) and Caitlin Fitzgerald, who was Masters’ secretary for a short time.
It’s Brandt’s first part after his role in NBC’s ‘The Michael J. Fox Show’, which was recently cancelled by NBC. Brandt also appeared in the film ‘Magic Mike’. It was previously announced that Keke Palmer (‘Akeelah and the Bee’) will also play a role in ‘Masters of Sex’.
Showtime also announced that the cast of ‘Ray Donovan’ has added a new member to their team. Wendell Pierce has joined the cast of this Golden Globe-winning series. Pierce is famous for his critically-acclaimed acting work in ‘The Wire’ and ‘Treme’. The general public will probably know him as Rachel Zane’s father in ‘Suits’.
Pierce will play a parole officer who’s in trouble and is being bribed by Ray Donovan, played by Liev Schreiber. Pierce recently quit the cast of ‘Treme’, in which he was part of the main cast for four seasons. Pierce also had a part in the recently cancelled ‘The Michael J. Fox Show’. Actors from that show clearly don’t have trouble finding new roles.
‘Ray Donovan’ was Showtime’s best-watched debut series last year. The second season will also feature Hank Azaria, Sherilyn Fenn, Heather McComb and Vinessa Shaw.
Pierce also presents the Peabody Award-winning radio show ‘Jazz at the Lincoln Center’.
