NPO cancels Omroep MAX series Maud & Babs

Omroep MAX is not allowed to make a new season of the series Maud & Babs. There were plans for a third season, but the NPO did not approve them.
The NPO's decision disappoints broadcaster Jan Slagter. "The series had a huge impact, good viewing and appreciation figures and we received a lot of responses, especially about its recognisability. The NPO mainly focuses on reaching a younger target group in drama series, which unfortunately gives Omroep MAX little room for fiction. to develop."

A spokesperson for the NPO explains that the organization must make a choice "from the many original proposals that makers and broadcasters submit, because viewers always expect a varied, familiar and surprising offer".

Maud & Babs is about Maud (Rifka Lodeizen), who is an informal caregiver for her demented mother Babs (Loes Luca). The episodes reached an average audience of one million viewers.

The cast also includes Georgina Verbaan and Peter Paul Muller. Patty Stenger wrote the screenplay and is directed by Norbert ter Hall.

Earlier this week, the makers of The Jewish Council also expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that the NPO does not want to make the 'successor' to the series, entitled De Return. Screenwriter Roos Ouwehand did receive money to develop the series, but the NPO subsequently rejected the plan. This also led to many angry reactions from viewers.
