After four seasons, ABC Family has decided to say goodbye to the sitcom ‘Melissa & Joey’. The cast and crew are still filming the fourth season, next week production of the fourth season will be ready. A statement from ABC Family notes “The comedy will conclude its storyline at the end of the fourth season, to air later this summer.”
ABC Family’s new Executive Vice-President of Programming and Development, Karey Burke, said, “We are proud of the milestones ‘Melissa & Joey’ has achieved, being the network’s first sitcom to reach 100 episodes and the network’s first comedy to win a People’s Choice Award… Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking towards starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close. We are grateful to Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence and the whole cast and crew who worked so hard on this successful show.”
By the time the series is over, more than 100 episodes have been broadcast of ‘Melissa & Joey’. The hundredth episode will be broadcast on 18 March 2015 and will serve as the mid-season finale of the fourth season.
