Gentlemen, ladies, which films should I at least have seen before starting the series?

The organization this series is about, Monarch, first appears in the recent film series and plays a major role in King of the Monsters. Watching this first can help you understand the mythology better. If you want to be completely up to date, these are the films in which Monarch plays a role and this is the recommended order. Godzilla (2014) Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023-) Enjoy!

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was released nearly a decade after Godzilla, it is a direct sequel to that movie, making it the only one you have to watch to prepare for the TV series.

It's strange... I'm watching the movies on HBO and suddenly I see the movie Kong: Skull Island, which is apparently about the same Kong who is also in the movie Godzilla vs. Kong sits. This film is then never mentioned as part of the franchise and did not come up when I searched for Godzilla via the search functionality in the HBO app. The film also features Monarch, so I don't really understand why no one is talking about that film or mentioning it when you search for Godzilla films. Seems to me like that movie is part of the franchise. Anyone have any ideas? :D

Yes, you are right. I focused mainly on Godzilla for the above post, but King Kong is also part of the MonterVerse. Check this Wikipedia article for more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MonsterVerse

Well, I'm done watching the movies. What CGI masterpieces they are. Now I just have to wait a few days and then I can watch the entire season in a row. Kong: Skull Island actually had the best cast, it's a shame we didn't see them in the other films. Would have been difficult since the events in this film took place earlier than the films Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, but okay :P I am also very curious about Godzilla Minus One (Japanese film), but it is not available for download anywhere yet.

I'm also curious about Godzilla Minus One. I'm especially looking forward to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

I saw Godzilla Minus One in the cinema. One of the best Godzilla movies I've seen. From the original Toho film producer who started the franchise. Good story, good acting and great effects. Well worth seeing on the big screen.

Well, copy it! Very cool to see the history of Keiko, Bill and Lee + all the connections between the series and the films Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island. The story seems to be well put together. The CGI in this series is also really good. I also didn't expect to see so many Titans. Nice to see Dominique Tipper (Naomi / The Expanse), even if it is a small role for now. I expect to see more of her in season 2.

Godzilla Minus One has been on Netflix for a few days now. When I have some more time I will definitely watch this.

Definitely do it, Richard! It is by far the best Godzilla film of recent years and puts Hollywood interpretations in the shade. Have fun and I'm curious what you think of it.

'Monarch' starts quite strong and seems to be heading for a cool over the top monster series. Halfway through the season it weakens immeasurably into a mediocre family/friend drama and an aimless quest for the usefulness of a secret defense organization. Disappointment for those expecting a disaster series full of monsters.

It is not only in the films of Godzilla and related that the organization Monarch has a hand but first in the Jurassic park films one encounters this. In any case I am a fan regarding this series and hope for a next season.
