When Ben and his friends dig up a time capsule from their childhood, they discover that the diary Ben's brother put inside contains the dates of each of their deaths. Ben Schotz returns to his hometown of Moresnet for his father's funeral. During his return, he also sees his old friends again. Together, they decide to dig up the time capsule they buried as teenagers. However, that time capsule contains a big surprise. In Ben's brother's diary, the dates are noted when each of them will die. The only name that is not there is that of Ben himself.
Initially, it is treated with some humor, but when the first of his friends dies a few days later, Ben panics and starts investigating with his girlfriend Zoë Kuypers. Zoë is a journalist and has just returned from a visit to the German company Thalamus, where she had an interview with the new CEO, Eva Rolin, the granddaughter of Robert Rolin (Pierre Bokma, De Joodse Raad), the founder and great driving force behind the company that is involved in brain research. When the journalist mentions the ETERNECO project, she is shown the door.
The ETERNECO project is of great importance in this mysterious horror series because all events revolve around this game with the brain. To achieve his goal, Robert spares no one and Ben and his friends are murdered one by one. Thanks to the research and discoveries that Ben and Zoë make, they see that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
A whole tangle of events unfolds in which both Ben's circle of friends and the people of Thalamus are involved. One side tries to discover why things happen while the other side does everything to hide their discoveries. When everything comes to a climax in the sixth episode, you as a viewer end up in a surprising carousel that could have been plucked from the distant future. And the makers still leave an opening for a possible sequel. If they plan to make one, I'll be in the front row.
