The series Motherland: Fort Salem takes place in an alternative, modern America where witches ended their persecution 300 years ago by concluding a deal with the nascent American government to fight for their country. The series follows three young women who have completed basic training in combat magic. In the wonderful world that Motherland: Fort Salem shows, the traditional roles of gender and power are reversed, with the more dominant women on the front line fighting against imminent terrorist attacks, but with supernatural tactics and weapons. Taylor Hickson, Jessica Sutton, Ashley Nicole Williams, Amalia Holm and Demetria McKinney play the lead roles.
Motherland: Fort Salem is written and directed by Eliot Laurence (Claws) and the executive producers are Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Missick. The first episode will be released on the 18th of March. The network released a new trailer during the TCA Winter Press Tour.
Freeform previously introduced the series Siren (2018), which is also a modernized view of a classical myth, but is about mermaids.
