Second season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith delayed by Prime Video

The second season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video has been delayed, and the future of the series is uncertain due to issues with the cast.
Originally, Mark Eydelshteyn and Sophie Thatcher were announced as the new spy couple in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but further casting deals with others such as Lily-Rose Depp, Francesca Scorsese, Levon Thurman-Hawke, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal were never finalized.

The production, which was set to move from New York to Los Angeles after a tax benefit of over 22 million dollars, is now on hold. Sources report that the creators hope to resume preparations by the end of this year, aiming to film in 2026.

Meanwhile, showrunner Francesca Sloane, who developed the series alongside Donald Glover, has signed an exclusive contract with HBO and is writing the first episode of Big Little Lies season three.

The first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith followed John and Jane, played by Glover and Maya Erskine, two strangers posing as a married couple while working together as spies.

The series ended with a cliffhanger after a shootout, leaving it unclear whether the main characters would survive. Since its release in February, the series has become one of the most-watched new titles on Prime Video in the US and received sixteen Emmy nominations. Ultimately, the series won two awards, including one for Michaela Coel as Best Guest Actress.
