Production of Mr. & Mrs. Smith season two started

The spy series Mr. & Mrs. Smith has officially started filming its second season after a production pause and a change in showrunner.

The new season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith is under the leadership of Anna Ouyang Moench, known for series like Netflix's Beef and Apple TV's Severance. She takes over from Francesca Sloane, who was previously responsible for season 1 but has since struck a deal with HBO. Due to this transition and other production circumstances, the series was on hold for some time.

As for the cast, the second season will feature a largely new lineup: Talia Ryder (West Side Story) and Mark Eydelshteyn (Anora) play the lead roles. Ryder replaces Sophie Thatcher, who was previously attached to the project but ultimately proved unavailable. Meanwhile, Maya Erskine, who starred alongside Donald Glover in the first season, remains involved as an executive producer.

Little is known about the storyline of the second season, but it is expected to build upon the concept from the first season: two strangers hired by a mysterious organization assume new identities as a married couple and embark on dangerous missions together. The series is loosely based on the 2005 film of the same name starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

A significant change is the setting: while the first season was largely set in New York, the production is now moving to Los Angeles. This was made possible in part by a tax incentive from the California Film Commission.
