NCIS and NCIS: Origins are planning a crossover in November.

In November, something special is set to happen within the NCIS franchise: a crossover between NCIS and NCIS: Origins.
NCIS: Origins and NCIS take place in different time periods, but the writers have found a way to bring both worlds together in a "decades-spanning mystery."

NCIS

The storyline begins in NCIS: Origins at 8:00 PM, where in the 1990s an investigation is conducted into the death of a naval officer in a small town. Later that evening, the case is unexpectedly reopened by the present-day team in NCIS. It is the first time the two series have crossed paths.

NCIS: Origins, a prequel to NCIS, premiered last year and ended the first season with a cliffhanger: Lala (Mariel Molino) was seriously injured in a car accident after swerving to avoid a child.

Co-showrunner David J. North said at the time that there was much discussion in the writers' room about how the season should end. According to him, he and his colleague Gina wanted to tell stories that feel honest and truthful. "Everyone has experienced waking up and everything just flows, and then suddenly something unthinkable happens. Lives collide constantly, and that was the theme of the beautiful finale that Gina wrote. Ultimately, this is simply where the story took us."

Both NCIS and NCIS: Origins return on Tuesday, October 14, with the crossover mystery taking center stage.
