McNamara promised the series would appeal to both loyal fans and new viewers: "We tried to strike a balance between viewers who already know the characters inside and out, and those meeting them for the first time," he said. "Hopefully, longtime fans will feel nostalgic. And new viewers will think, 'Wow, those two really have something.'"
The spinoff picks up after Ziva's presumed death, after which Tony left the NCIS team to raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was revealed to be alive and completed one final mission with NCIS before being reunited with Tony and their daughter Tali in Paris.
Since then, Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter together—until Tony's security company is attacked, forcing the family to flee across Europe in search of their target.
"It's an epic love story of two people on a journey," de Pablo said. Weatherly added: "It's no longer 'will they or won't they,' but 'when will it finally happen?'"
The cast also includes Amita Suman, Maximilian Osinski, Lara Rossi, Isla Gie, Nassima Benchicou, Terence Maynard, Julian Ovenden, and James D'Arcy.
The ten-part series NCIS: Tony & Ziva premieres on Thursday, September 4th, on Paramount+ with three episodes. New episodes will follow weekly on Thursdays, with the season finale airing on October 23rd.
