NCIS: Tony & Ziva - First episode

Tony and Ziva create an absurd yet delightfully amusing spectacle in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, yet another NCIS spin-off.
The long-running series NCIS introduced former Mossad agent Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) starting in season three. She worked with Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), who had a wonderful love-hate relationship, on Jethro Gibbs's U.S. Naval Police investigation team. They eventually had a daughter together, separated, and for the past ten years, the series has continued successfully without either of them.

Paramount+ premiered the series NCIS: Tony and Ziva on September 4, 2025. And the opening is incredibly cheesy, unrealistic, but also relatable, unpredictable, and incredibly fun to watch. Tony and Ziva both live, but not together, in Paris and are co-parents of their now twelve-year-old daughter, Tali (Isla Gie). Tony is a prominent security consultant, and Ziva is the manager of a language institute. Naturally, something happens that puts both protagonists in danger. Tony runs afoul of criminals, their daughter is threatened, and the stakes are high.

The first episode was filmed with great enthusiasm and it's wonderful to see Tony and Ziva working together again.

The first episode was filmed enthusiastically, and it's great to see Tony and Ziva back together. The story isn't anything to write home about, but the chemistry between the two actors is infectious. The first season will have ten episodes, and I'm curious to see if the plot of the first episode will come together. The action scenes are certainly well-filmed, and the international locations, unlike in NCIS, are realistically depicted.

For those who remember the plot of the first episode, "No Country is Safe," Tony's company handles security for Interpol. A cyberattack leads to the theft of a sum of money, and although Tony and his associates recover some of it, the damage is substantial. The criminals pursue the full loot, putting Tony and Ziva's daughter in danger. Meanwhile, Interpol is unsure of Tony DiNozzo's good intentions. Paris, Budapest, and Italy subsequently become the backdrop for their adventures.

After leaving NCIS, Michael Weatherly enjoyed a successful six-season run on the series Bull (2016), and Cote de Pablo guest-starred on several other shows. It's a joy to see them back together. In Bull (2016), Weatherly played a portly legal specialist with sharp dialogue in the final season; now he's a fit security specialist and convincing as a concerned father. Cote de Pablo is, as always, witty and decisive as Ziva David; the interaction between them remains humorous, sometimes cringe-inducing, but always fascinating. The start is certainly a successful spin-off, and it leaves you wanting more.

About the writer, Karzal

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.

I've seen the first three episodes and think it's a really good series so far. The story is indeed run-of-the-mill, but the interaction between Ziva and Tony is truly vintage. Despite the weak plot, there's plenty to enjoy.
