NCIS: Los Angeles - Season 9 (DVD)

The solid ninth season of NCIS Los Angeles Season 9 has a great DVD release.
In May 2023, the second NCIS spin-off, the highly successful NCIS: Los Angeles, came to an end after 14 seasons. After NCIS: New Orleans ended, only NCIS: Hawaii remained. There are plans for a next spin-off set in Sydney, but that is still uncertain. This 24-episode ninth season of NCIS: Los Angeles opens with Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt, The Practice) resigning and Shay Mosley (Nia Long, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) taking over as director.

The question is whether Hetty is really retired and whether the new director always has the best interests at heart for the team of NCIS agents.

During the season, these two women play an important role in addition to the exciting crimes. The question is whether Hetty is really retired and whether the new director always has the best interests at heart for the team of NCIS agents. Sam Hanna (L.L. Cool J, In the House) goes undercover again several times and Callen (Chris O'Donnell, Grey's Anatomy), Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen, The Loop) and Kensi (Daniela Ruah, Tu e Eu) go after gun dealers, Russian oligarchs, North Korean terrorists and colorful killers.

This season also features familiar faces in guest roles, including Daniel J. Travanti (Hill Street Blues), Patrick St. Esprit (S.W.A.T.) and Andrea Bordeaux (Rizzoli & Isles) as Agent Harley Hidoko. The episodes are set up in a recognizable way, the action scenes are good and convincing and the dialogues usually feel very familiar. This makes this season entertaining and as a lover of the NCIS series you will not be disappointed.

This DVD release is already from 2018. A mini booklet with other DVD and Blu-ray releases from Paramount and Universal that were planned for 2019 is included. The inside cover features the titles and short storyline of all episodes included on the six discs. It is true that the descriptions are in English, but I always find that useful. The text on the cover is also in Dutch and French. With the episodes, there is a choice between the English-spoken version and the German and French dubbed versions. In addition to Dutch subtitles, there are also subtitles in the other three languages.

The extras are certainly interesting again this time. There are cut scenes from several episodes and it is helpful that these are on the discs of the respective episodes, rather than on a separate disc. There is also a short five-minute special on episode 200 'This is what we Do' on the second disc: Celebrating 200, in which stuntman Wael Alroyly also plays a role.

Most of the extras can be found on the sixth and final disc. Nine Lives: a Look inside the 9th season is a 23-minute review of the season with key actors speaking. There is also a nine-minute behind-the-scenes look at two new roles and their actors. Finally, L.L. Cool J is shown for four minutes in the short film 'Sam Hanna: Incognito' as an undercover character. These extras turn this DVD release of NCIS: Los Angeles into a great release!

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
