MySeries' year in series 2020

MySeries' year in series 2020

2020, what a year. The entirety of it was pretty much marked by Covid-19 and unfortunately, we still haven't gotten rid of it. But that doesn't refrain us from looking back to 2020 and what the year looked like.
2020, the year that saw the abrupt ending of various series. The year that resulted in some series being left without a proper conclusion, the year that changed the entire fall schedule. Nonetheless, the year featured a lot of great new (mini) series and also saw quite a few disappointments. 2020 also saw the final season of series such as The 100, Supernatural, Ray Donovan, Homeland and Empire. It was the year where Quibi first entered the playing left and shortly thereafter left. All in all and thanks to - and despite - the coronacrisis, the year 2020 has been a beautiful year for series.

Down below, we've noted down some of the statistics of 2020;

Writers
Firstly, we would like to put our fantastic writers in the spotlight. Thanks to their great work, many news items, reviews and columns have been published and translated. Our newest editor Dagmar Krijt has contributed to the massive amount of news items that have been published. Her first message was released on the 14th of February in 2020. In total, 2828 news items have been published and most of those have been translated by Mike Mekking. In total, we've seen 779 messages more than in 2019.

In 2020, we saw 77 fewer reviews written and translated than in 2019. In total, 332 reviews have been published in 2020. Next to the news messages, there were a lot more columns in 2020. In 2019, 86 columns were released and in 2020 a total of 103 columns were released. This was in part due to new columns that were written by Nico Hoeijmans and Matthijs Lardé.

Adding series
2020 was also the year where many new series and programmes were added to our database. In total, 5,496 series/programmes have been added. Currently, MySeries has a database that consists of 17,140 series and programmes. As a lot of programmes have been added by our readers, we can't say for certain how many series have been added in 2020. The 'newest' series have been added by Tamino and will premiere in 2023. These 'newest' series are Moana (2023) and Power Book IV: Force. The 'oldest' series were added by Tamino and yours truly and these were Woody Woodpecker and Friends from 1929 and Looney Tunes, which also released in 1929.

Members
Without readers and members, MySeries wouldn't be MySeries. In 2020, we've seen quite a growth spurt. A total of 90,973 people became part of our website in 2020, which is double the number of new people in comparison to 2019. In total, MySeries now has 300,608 users. And all these users have seen more than 22 million episodes and gave 178,363 votes. In total, 47,759 votes were given to specific characters and most of these were given to Geralt of Riva (Henry Cavill) from The Witcher.

Most read/watched
We also kept track of statistics about which series were watched the most. The most-watched series in 2020 was Sara (telenovelle), followed by Grey's Anatomy and Downton Abbey. The series with the most followers was Game of Thrones, which was followed by Grey's Anatomy and La Casa de Papel. The latter received the most votes in 2020, with a total of 1,699 votes. This means that La Casa de Papel received 128 more votes than in 2019. Game of Thrones has received 1,598 votes and Grey's Anatomy has voted on 1,437 times.

Other
Unfortunately, in 2021, we will miss out on the News from Scotland column. Karin Witowski passed away in November 2020 due to corona. The seventeenth part of News from Scotland released in January 2020 and this has been the final one.

Through this news item, we of MySeries want to thank you all for a wonderful 2020. The MySeries team hopes that 2021 will see loads of great series in good health. And we hope that our wonderful writing team - who do this entirely voluntarily - will also be able to surprise you with amazing reviews and columns. We expect that our newsroom will keep you up to date with loads of messages about a lot of series.
