MySeries has reached 400.000 members

On the 27th of November in 2022, the 400.000th person registered an account on MySeries. What a huge milestone! A nice moment to dig into the history of MySeries.
Back in 2009, watching series became increasingly popular. At the time, MySeries was known as nuopdvd.com (nowondvd.com, Dutch translation), where you could mainly find movies next to a couple of series. Soon, we noticed that most people were trying to find television series. It was at that moment we decided to develop a website that would focus solely on series, to easily keep track of what you've watched. In 2010, MySeries officially launched.

Purely looking at the design, MySeries was an exact copy of nowondvd. However, because there is a noticeable difference between series and movies, we soon stumbled across some issues. In 2011, a new layout was developed, with the intention of properly and clearly displaying information. This design remained in use for quite some time, until - and including - 2015.

In 2012, MySeries kept doing better, which meant that we kept being busier. At the time, the founder decided to focus on MySeries full-time. An office was rented in Groningen (City in the Netherlands), and some interns were hired to grow even further. In 2013, two part-timers were added to the crew. One of them still works for MySeries. I'm talking about Mandy! That year also brought Netflix to The Netherlands, which meant that even more people started watching series.

Since the arrival of Netflix, 'bingewatching' has become a phenomenon. Netflix was the first network/streaming service to release an entire season on one day, usually Friday. This meant that you could watch an entire season in one go during the weekend. The arrival of other streaming services made watching series even more popular. Think of Prime Video (2018), Disney+ (2019), AppleTV+ (2019), HBO Max (2022), Viaplay (2022), and SkyShowtime (2022).

Between 2019 and 2020, our team grew to three part-timers and 22 review writers. This year, more changes were made to the lay-out of the website. In 2021, an entirely new app was developed. The MySeries app can be found online and is used quite a bit. The app actually has a fun new function that will go live on the 1st of January in 2023. We can't tell a whole lot about that just yet, but make sure to take a look on the 1st of January!

Back in 2014, we were incredibly proud of having reached the milestone of 50.000 members. In 2016, we reached double that amount, 100.000! Late 2019, we reached 200.000 members and now, in 2022, we've reached 400.000. A shout-out to Ejsnabi22, who became our 400.000th member, thank you very much!

Of course, we're incredibly happy with all the MySeries members. A thank you to all of you! Without you, MySeries would've never become the success it is today. We will happily keep developing MySeries, let's go to half a million!
