Corona crisis; which series to watch? Natasha Slagter's top 5

It has become a well-known image, empty supermarket shelves, empty squares and shopping malls. People work from home or not at all. How can you spend that time? We have made a top 5 displaying series you could watch in these peculiar times.
Over the last few years, various disaster series have released. Luckily we can spoil that in most cases there was a happy ending. Hopefully, you will be able to feel a bit more secure due to these series.

5. Als De Dijken Breken (When the Dikes break, Dutch series)

This series resulted in parliament discussions. This Belgian-Dutch production revolves around what would happen to The Netherlands and Flanders if we would be surprised by a superstorm. Are we still save? The Belgian government decides on a different approach than the Dutch government. Which one is the right choice? As Brussel and The Hague are arguing about politics, the series focuses on those who are stuck in the eye of the storm. This series released in 2016 and can now be seen on Netflix in various countries.

4. Designated Survivor

Designated Survivor manages to display how the world of one man is turned upside down. Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) is the final man standing after a catastrophic attack and is appointed leader of the world. He manages to portray his character fascinatingly and convincingly. ABC decided to cancel the series after two seasons, but Netflix ordered a third season. It has since been cancelled.

3. Occupied

In the near future, the Norwegian government decides to end their oil and gas acquisition to switch to clean and durable energy completely. Russia invades the land to make sure the resources remain available to the rest of the world. What was supposed to be a peaceful, temporary invasion turned out to be a time of despair. A great Norwegian series that you must watch if you enjoyed The Bridge (2011) and Borgen. Let yourself enjoy political power games. Occupied consists of three seasons and can be seen on Netflix in most countries.

2. Arctic Circle

This Finnish series is, out of this top 5, the easiest to compare to the current situation in the world. A dying prostitute is diagnosed with a very deadly virus. The Finnish inspector Nina Kautsalo works alongside German virologist Thomas Lorenz to figure out what caused the infection. Can they stop an outbreak? Arctic Circle takes place near the North pole on the icy landscapes of the Finnish Lapland. Next to the beautiful scenery, this is a wonderfully exciting series.

1.Chernobyl

Can we call this the mother of all disasters? The series provides a great image of the explosion that happened in the nuclear reactor of Chernobyl in 1986. The subject was thoroughly researched, which makes the series highly credible. You will be astonished. Why do the leaders react so slowly and how many people have to die? Right now, the series can be found at number 7 in the MySeries top 100. It also won the category best mini- and anthology series in the series of the year election 2019. Chernobyl is a miniseries, which consists of 5 episodes.

If you can't get enough of series like this one, I have plenty more for you: The Handmaid's Tale or Counterpart. If you've seen enough disasters, you can decide to watch one of the many hospital series: The Night Shift, Grey's Anatomy, Chicago Med, Code Black, ER or The Good Doctor.

Soon there will be more top-five lists to pass the time.
